From researching different keyboarding, educational, and assistive games, I have learned that there are all kinds of different games out there for children to have fun doing, but also learning at the same time! These games range from practicing knowing the keys of the keyboard, learning different math, reading, and science skills through educational games, and also being able to use talking calculators if a child needs help! In this blog, I am going to discuss what my favorite game is after researching!
My favorite resource I found was ABCYA! This educational game is found from www.abcya.com. This website is wonderful for all aged elementary students from pre- k to fifth grade. I bookmarked this site, because the site just really caught my eye! The website's homepage is bright and very kid-friendly! It makes me excited about learning and playing the games! When asking my nine year old sister about what she thought about the bright and bold homepage of ABCYA, she said, "Sissy, this can't be an educational game, because it looks too fun." This is coming from a third grader. On www.abcya.com, the kids can pick the grade they are in that a way the games are appropriate for their grade level. There are multiple kinds of subjects the students can practice. Once they have chosen the subject, they have a list of games they can play. Therefore, the kids can have fun, but also be learning! The only two things that might stomp some from using ABCYA is that the kids must have an account and the kids must have access to technology. Some schools might not have access to a lot of technology tools in the classrooms and some teachers might not want to take the time to sign up for ABCYA. I had no idea how many different resources there were out there, but I am glad I now know. I will definitely be using ABCYA in my classroom! I hope after reading this blog, you will be able to search through different resources of your own and find what works for your kiddos and what doesn't! Happy researching and good luck! If is the link in case you would like to check out ABCYA: http://www.abcya.com/ Thank you for reading my blog! Have you ever gotten tired of hand writing tests? Have you ever dreamed of having the kids take quizzes and tests online? If you answered yes to those two questions, you are reading the right blog!
Google Forms is an awesome Google Drive app that allows you to do so many different things. You can make a whole test within minutes! You can make the questions, decide how many different answer options there will be, and you can even add pictures and videos for the test! How cool is that!? Google Forms is a great way to have fun making the tests and making your classroom more modern! Google Forms has many positives! Here are a couple different positives of using Google Forms in your classroom: 1. It's modern! 2. You can design your own quiz/test very easily and very uniquely for your students! 3. There's cute formats for contact information, quizzes, RSVP's, and more! Anything you want to send out to parents, you can do that through Google Forms! With everything, there are always some negatives to every good story. Here are some of the negatives: 1. You cannot change the font. 2. You cannot change the background of the different forms. 3. The way the different forms look might not be what you school principal wants you to do. The next site I want to talk about is Kahoot! Are you ready to make learning and studying for those awful tests fun!? If you are, Kahoot is a great tool to use! Kahoot is a fun, online game that you can use when studying for anything! After you sign in, you can search for any subject of your desire. The awesome feature about Kahoot is that if you do not like the different trivia games Kahoot already has made, you, as the teacher, parent, or kid can make a test of any subject. After you pick or design your test, there will be a code that comes up. The one that is administering the test will need to make sure all the kids playing types the code in to their device. After that, the kids can pick their name and the test begins. It is important that the person administering the test reads the questions off, because the kids taking the test cannot see the question or answer options. The answers are in different colored squares and the answers are represented by shapes. For each test you get right, Kahoot will give you points. You can see the other players playing with you and if you are in first, second, third, and so on. Here are some positives of Kahoot: 1. It is a fun way to study! 2. You can study and "take tests" with your friends even when they are not with you! 3. Kahoot has thousands of trivia games and subjects to choose from! Here are also some of the negatives: 1. The kids cannot see the questions being given. 2. Some kids might be colored blind or deaf. Therefore, they might not be able to hear the teacher given the question or be able to see the four different colored squares. 3. Some kids might not know the shapes, which represent the answers. Hello, parents, friends, and family members, my name is Ms. Embrey, and I am going to start blogging every week about upcoming events going on in the school and in my first grade classroom! I hope you are just as excited as I am!
I have decided to start blogging to help keep parents and family members of students in my class updated on what their child is doing every week! This is going to be fun and exciting! I am trying to build a better classroom community this year, so I hope by doing blogs every week, it will help build a wonderful classroom community! Blogging is also great, because family members that do not live close to your child can see these blogs! I would highly recommend letting other family members know about the blogs, so they can also see what their nephew, niece, cousin...etc is doing in the classroom! Because I am a fairly new teacher to the school, I want to make sure everyone is on the same page and working together! I don't want anything to be confusing. I hope to have a great and successful year! Blogging is also great for veteran teachers, because it shows them the modern way get information out to parents, friends, and other family members. They can also share their pounds and pounds of knowledge that they have from being veteran teachers and blog about effective teacher tips for new teachers to read. I hope you have enjoyed my very first blog! I can't wait to read the feedback! Thanks, Kaitlin |
